The Atrium

In the vibrant urban tapestry of Bangalore, India, we embarked on a journey to carve out an architectural project that not only stood tall amidst the dense cityscape but also cocooned its inhabitants in a haven of tranquility.

Imagine a plot measuring a mere 30 feet to the road and 60 feet in depth, nestled amidst a maze of rental houses, each vying for its slice of space. Our canvas was confined, but we embraced this challenge, transforming it into an opportunity to reimagine urban living.

Three bedrooms, a cozy home theater, was the brief from the clients. To counter the context of no privacy, a large atrium awaited us. As daylight paints its artistry on every inch of the space, the 140-square-foot atrium emerges as the central element welcoming one to the house and attracting everyone’s gaze as one moves across the project. It was more than a design element – it was a lifeline, channeling natural light into every nook and cranny, breathing life into the living, dining, kitchen, and study areas.

The daughter’s bedroom-study, bathed in the ethereal glow of the triple-height atrium, flaunts a connection to the dining area across the 20 feet of the skylight.

In the embrace of our design, privacy emerged as a symphony composed of layers – layers of well-thought-out spaces that shielded the inhabitants from the prying eyes of the bustling urban world. The neighboring houses, once suffocatingly close, now seemed like distant companions.

The project strives to create an oasis of serenity amidst the urban chaos
